Last time I blogged about the living room I was at a decorating stalemate and my inset squares looked like this.
Now, they look like this! You might recall I was having a hard time pulling the trigger on wall art. After debating over a few options, I decided that the “trendy” Martha Stewart collection sunburst mirrors would look best. And for $35 a pop…if I fall out of love with them in the future (which I know I will) I won’t feel bad about the purchase. Plus, I’m already thinking about other places that would benefit from a little ray of trendy sunshine! Ahhh…the life of a house tweaker!
I also continued the paint color in the insets and the “T” as we call it, above and around the TV. The color is Benjamin Moore’s Silver Fox. Before you say - “that looks more like Purple Fox," I’ll tell you the color is not photographing true to life. Here is a swatch from the website to show it more accurately.
I suspect that it’s because Silver Fox is up against the beige color in the corners of the room that it’s not showing well. Also, for some reason, everything picks up a “pinky” tone in the living room. I am contemplating painting the rest of the walls BM Decorator’s White (to match the mantle and the picture moulding) in an attempt to correct the tone. On the other hand, I am also thinking of continuing Silver Fox for continuity sake and because I think it will really pop against the Decorator’s White baseboards (upcoming rainy day project) and the crown moulding (which Jay swears he will put up soon).
We also bought new curtains from West Elm. They are the Tali Printed in 108 height. I like them much better than the old curtains for a lot of reasons, but primarily because they let more light in and make the window look bigger since they are hung all the way up to the ceiling.
In honor of the significant amount of progress this room has made, let’s take a look at ALL of the steps along the way..
Uh oh, I spy faux brick wall paper!
That’s Abigail, the contractor’s dog!
The day we moved in…
The day I put every single knick-knack I owned in the book shelves….
Old curtains and monochromatic room…
New paint, new accessories, old chairs (getting quotes on reupholstering!)
So that’s where we’ve landed for now. I have so many more ideas for this room (new couch, reupholstered chairs, new floor lamp, more color, and shelf “styling”). Those improvements are going to have to wait for a while.
On a side note - I’m totally bummed that I can’t seem to take a picture of the new paint color without it looking purple. Truth be told, in some lights, when I look at in “real life” it looks a little grey-purple too. It drives me nuts! Anyone want to take bets on when I re-paint?
